West Palm Beach and the surrounding Intracoastal Waterway β from the Lake Worth Inlet near Peanut Island down through Boynton Beach's inlet β support one of the densest concentrations of marinas and private docks in the state, and a boat cabin closed up between uses in South Florida humidity is about as good an environment for mold as exists. Vinyl headliners, foam cushions, and carpeted cabin soles trap moisture with little airflow, and a bilge that isn't pumped and dried regularly adds standing water and organic buildup on top of it.
Marine mold remediation calls for different materials handling than a house does. Fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces, teak trim, marine-grade vinyl upholstery, and foam cushions each respond differently to cleaning agents, and using the wrong product can discolor gelcoat or degrade vinyl and foam faster than the mold would have. We use marine-safe antimicrobial treatments suited to each surface, clean or replace affected cushions and headliner material, and address the bilge and any standing moisture source directly rather than just treating the smell.
Seasonal patterns matter too β boats that sit closed up for weeks at a time during an owner's travel, or that get hauled and shrink-wrapped ahead of hurricane season, are especially prone to a mold surprise at re-launch. We work at marinas and private docks throughout the West Palm Beach area, not just at a shop, so a boat doesn't need to be moved to get treated.
